A Day with Friends of Trees

I learned this new thing that day at the event with Friends of Trees. I had big fun and learned a lot of new things.  Here is my story.

I went to a Friends of Trees event with my Destination Imagination team and my friend Peter.  As soon as  we arrived at Ibach park in Tualatin, Oregon, we got our shovels, hats, and gloves.  Equipped with those, we walked down to the place where we would be planting trees. It was in a forest near a little stream.

Do you like wildlife and nature and especially trees? Then Friends of Trees is just the right thing for you. Friends of Trees is an organization with people who volunteer to plant trees for wildlife. The reason why we do this is because the trees can create shelter for many animals like squirrels, raccoons and even birds and lots of other wildlife  animals. And, the trees can give us oxygen. If you would like to be a part of Friends of Trees all that you would have to do is go to their website www.friendsoftrees.org.  There are many opportunities open to volunteer at Friends of Trees.

How The Trees Survived

Narrator: Once, in the state of Oregon, there were many trees. So many trees that you could barely see the sky! That meant fresh and sweet air to breathe.

In a peaceful forest in Oregon, there lived a bird named Winter, a squirrel named Robert and a raccoon named Kylie.

Winter: Chirp! Chirp! What a beautiful day it is!

Robert: Like always! Thanks to these nice and healthy trees.

Kylie: They give us this sweet air. The more trees, the more fresh air. The more fresh air, the healthier we get.

(The animal friends continue a happy conversation. Their voices fade away as they prance happily.)

The Story

The Old Tree

Once there

was an old tree

He was so old that a

 lumberjack cut him down.

 Then a squirrel named Summer came out of the tree.

Summer saw the tree, her home being cut down. So she came up with a plan but she needed help. She went to 2 friends of hers.

They were spring, the chipmunk and snowflake, the blue jay.

The plan was they were going to scare

the lumberjack away.

They did this by sneaking into the tree and popping out like crazy.

The animals saved the tree.

Then the tree thanked them and life was back to normal.

I joined D.I. because I thought it could make me smarter and become smarter and more talented.

Hi, my name is Camille. Some of the things that I like to do when

I'm bored is doodle or draw crazy pictures. My favorite sport to play is

basketball and all of the sports that I play right now are basketball and

softball. I love recess time at school because I can shoot hoops with my

friends. My favorite number is 3. I have one brother and one sister and one

dog. Their names are Henry, Maddie, and Buddy. My favorite thing to learn in

school is math and I like art literature. I like to go on amusement park

rides but just not when I end up throwing up on somebody. I love to spend

time with my grandparents. Also, when I'm bored I'll play games with my

Hi, I am studying trees with my team, 7 Wonders. We also try to educate people to plant trees.

Planting trees is not the only hobby I have. I do swimming, reading, playing piano, and just simply playing with my friends. I do not like it when my mom tells me to practice piano while I am in the middle of Percy Jackson or Harry Potter series. 

My name came from Pope Gregory, the Great. Did you know Saint Gregory started saying the phrase ‘God bless you’ when someone sneezed? It was 541 AD when there were 25 million people worldwide killed by this plaque whose first symptom was sneezing.

I enjoy being home, at the swimming pool, and having playdates with my neighbor friends. I think I have a team of friends who are working hard, good, and friendly.

JONATHAN

Upon a little hill in a 3rd grade classroom, the teacher was talking about rocks and minerals. The classroom is in Oregon and the boy is JJ.

After she was done teaching, she asked a question. Almost everyone raised hands, “nuh-nuh, not me, thought Jonathan, “but I knew the answer.” looks like JJ is a stubborn boy.

JJ likes music. He loves playing the piano and the recorder. He is very good at playing piano. He can play a lot of songs! He plays piano when he is excited.

JJ is very naughty as well, sometimes at the wrong time. For example, at math class, he makes paper poppers. Wonder what those are? They are things that make popping noises. He taught his friend DD how to make them in math class. Together they set them off and boom-boom! The noises were too loud and sounded like gunshots. Everyone was scared. They screamed in terror until they found out that it was us because we were laughing to death.

Another of JJ’s hobbies is teakwondo. He learned very fast so his instructor often asks him to show the other students how to do kicking and punching.  JJ often practices with his brother in their house and a lot of other places. One things JJ does not like about teakwondo is he has to change in to a derby uniform. The uniform makes JJ uncomfortable.

Overall JJ is a happy, open, kind, and funny kid. JJ likes making new friends. Will you be my friend?

Hi, my name is Katie. I am part of the group, 7 Wonders. First of all, I’m in 3rd grade. I moved from place to place a lot. Last summer, I moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon from Palo Alto, California. I love to write stories. This made me write ever since kindergarten. Now, I published two books. One is ready to be published. Besides writing, I love math and reading. I do sports like swimming, tennis, and skiing. One day, I might even do ice skating! When I grow up, I want to be an Olympic tennis player who makes movies and writes books!
